Robert Canfield
أستاذ الأنثروبولوجيا الاجتماعية والثقافية في الفنون والعلوم
في جامعة واشنطن في سانت لويس ,
حاصل على شهادة الدكتوراة جامعة ميشيغان ، 1971.
قضى تسع سنوات في أفغانستان.
ويركز بحثه على الحركات الإسلامية في أفغانستان وباكستان وإيران وغيرها من بلدان آسيا الوسطى. ويؤيد الحرب الأميركية في أفغانستان، ولكن كان شديد الانتقاد لإدارة بوش بشأن الحرب في العراق. وقد درس قضايا الهوية الإسلامية في آسيا الوسطى منذ أوائل 1980م ،
