درس اللغات والثقافات الشرقية (العربية والهندية) والدراسات العربية والإسلامية (العربية والفارسية والتركية) في جامعتي غنت وليوفن.
بعد أطروحة الماجستير في العلاقات البلجيكية-الفارسية في القرن التاسع عشر ("إقامة ناصر الدين شاه قاجار في بلجيكا في عام 1873: الغواصين الغزلان أو المعلم في العلاقات الفارسية البلجيكية؟")،
في عام 2010 دافع عن درجة الدكتوراه في الاتصال التركي ("قواعد الكتابة والتدوينات البرمجية والديناميكيات النصية، دراسة لنصوص تشاغاتاي من القرن الثامن عشر والقرن التاسع عشر").
إلى جانب اللغويات التركية (الاجتماعية، والاتصال والتاريخية)، يكمن اهتمامه الرئيسي في عمليات التبادل الثقافي والتفاعل بين العصور الوسطى التركية والفارسية والعربية. وهو يعمل حاليا في الدراسات المملوكية، ويركز على قضايا اللغة والعرق والهوية، وتشكيل الدولة، والدراسات الأدبية، والفترة الانتقالية المملوكية العثمانية.
