اهتماماته الأكاديمية هي في المقام الأول في التقاليد الدينية الغربية، وخاصة المسيحية والإسلام، سواء من الناحية التاريخية وفي الوقت الحاضر. ويميل إلى التركيز على التفاعل بين الطوائف الدينية، مثل نظرية وممارسة الجهاد في سبيل أطروحت الماجستير ومكان الطائفة الكاثوليكية في المجتمع النيوزيلندي ما بين الحربين العالميتين , أطروحة الدكتوراه. مع الاستمرار في استكشاف هذه المواضيع،
وقد تناول في ابحاثه مؤخرا الأصولية الدينية، وحرية التعبير في الإسلام، الإسلام في الجامعات الغربية، والحروب الصليبية، مواضيع الكتاب المقدس في الفكر الإسلامي والدين والحكومة في نيوزيلندا المعاصرة، والكنيسة القبطية الأرثوذكسية.
