وهوعالم الآثار البحرية وتاريخ العالم العربي في القرون الوسطى، والثقافات المواد البحرية المعاصرة في المنطقة.
الاهتمامات البحثية :
اهتماماته البحثية تتناول الثقافات البحرية في العالم العربي والإسلامي من الاثار النصية ووجهات النظر الإثنوغرافية. من أواخر العصور القديمة وحتى يومنا هذا.
الموضوعات الرئيسية لابحاثه هي :
تقنيات تسجيل القوارب , المجتمعات الساحلية , المناظر الطبيعية الملاحية
الملاحة في النيل في العصور الوسطى وأوائل العصر الحديث
الموانئ والمرافئ ,الأنهار والبحيرات والأراضي الرطبة , تقاليد بناء القوارب وتقنيات الملاحة البحرية
تقنيات الملاحة ما قبل الحداثة , علم الآثار البحرية , الآثار الإسلامية , التراث البحري .
وقد اجرى بحوثا ميدانية واسعة في جملة من البلاد العربية منها :
قطر , اليمن , مصر , السعودية , إرتيريا .
