تجربة التدريس :
وقد انشغل بالتدريس في أقسام الدراسات العربية والإسلامية والدراسات الدينية في جامعة أمستردام وقدم دورات في مجالات العلوم الإسلامية والشرق الأوسط (اكتساب اللغة العربية، والدين، والقانون، والتاريخ الكلاسيكي والحديث، والإسلام في أوروبا). منذ عام 1994 قدمت دورات باللغة الإنجليزية في الشريعة الإسلامية للطلاب الأجانب في إطار برنامج قانون أمستردام وكلية الحقوق أمستردام.
بين عامي 1983 و 1987 اعطى دروسا حول تاريخ الشرق الأوسط، وتاريخ مصر، والإسلام الحديث في المرحلة الجامعية والدراسات العليا (ما) في الجامعة الأمريكية بالقاهرة.
في عامي 1998 و 1999 قام بتدريس دورات قصيرة مكثفة (باللغة العربية) حول قانون الأسرة العربي المقارن في معهد البحوث التجريبية ودراسات المرأة، جامعة صنعاء، اليمن.
وأخيرا أشرف (المشرف الأول أو الثاني) على أطروحات الدكتوراه في جامعة أمستردام، وكذلك في الجامعات الهولندية الأخرى، وكان بمثابة ممتحن خارجي لأطروحات الدكتوراه في جامعة أكسفورد، كوبنهاغن، بيرغن (النرويج)، لايبزغ و بريتوريا .
