أستاذ الدراسات العربية
يتركز بحثه وتدريسه على تاريخ الشريعة الإسلامية ، ولا سيما في المجالات النظرية القانونية (أصول الفقه)، ومعتقد الشيعة والقانون ومبررات العنف في الفكر الإسلامي ,
المذهب الشيعي، ولا سيما النظرية الشيعية القانونية والسياسية .
من يناير إلى مارس 2013، وكان باحث زائر في جامعة شيكاغو. وكجزء من هذه الزمالة، ألقى محاضرة عامة عن التشيع، والعقيدة المهدوية والعنف.
بين أكتوبر 2010 ويناير كانون الثاني عام 2011، وكان زميل في معهد الدراسات المتقدمة في القدس كجزء من مجموعة أبحاث متعددة التخصصات: مجابهة الكتاب المقدس في تداخل الثقافات: في وقت مبكر اليهودية والمسيحية والاسلام استراتيجيات القراءة وتأثيراتها المعاصرة. أحدث مؤلفاته كتاب بعنوان الإسلام والحرفية (EUP، 2012) بحث الموضوعات المتقدمة خلال تلك الزمالة.
في أكتوبر ونوفمبر 2009، وكان باحث زائر في مركز جامعة لايدن لدراسة الإسلام والمجتمع، وقام بإعطاء محاضرات عن القانون، والسلطة، والتفسير في الإسلام الشيعي - هو حاليا مشغول بتحرير هذه المحاضرات للنشر.
وتشمل مشاريعه أكملت مؤخرا:
1. باحث مشارك مع البروفيسور استير ريد في اللاهوت والدين على مشروع "الدين في الحياة العامة: تجارب البريطانية والإيرانية"، وهي جائزة الشراكات الأكاديمية البريطانية الدولية. درست المشروع نظرتي المسيحية والإسلامية على الدين والحياة العامة والحكومة ويشكل جزءا من شبكة للدين في الحياة العامة. منحة ممولة العلماء الزائرين الإيرانيين إلى المملكة المتحدة والمؤتمرات وورش العمل وفصول رئيسية الدكتوراه لطلاب الدكتوراه في المملكة المتحدة وإيران.
2. باحث رئيسي في مشروع الشريعة، مشترك مع البروفيسور ليون Buskens من جامعة ليدن، وبتمويل من AHRC وNWO. هذا المشروع يهدف إلى إنشاء شبكة من الباحثين في المملكة المتحدة وهولندا عامل بشأن المسائل القانونية الإسلامية، وعقد أربع ورش عمل (اثنان في إكستر، وهما في ليدن). وقاد ورشة العمل الأولى البروفيسور بودوان Dupret. عقدت ورشة العمل الثانية 17-19 أبريل 2013 في إكستر. عقدت ورشة العمل الثالثة في جامعة ليدن، 15-16 نوفمبر عام 2013 وكان يقودها أستاذ كيسيا علي. وعقدت حلقة العمل الرابعة 6- 7 فبراير 2014 في جامعة إكستر، وادارها الاستاذ وائل حلاق.
3. باحث رئيسي في مشروع "العنف المشروع وغير المشروع في الفكر الإسلامي"، وهو مشروع مدته ثلاث سنوات، بتمويل من AHRC وESRC كجزء من برنامج التقلبات العالمية. وبدأ المشروع في 1 يناير 2010 وانتهى في 31 سبتمبر 2013. درس المشروع المنطق القانوني للفقهاء المسلمين والمفكرين الأخلاقية التي يعمل من العنف مبررة أو إدانة. وقد عقدت أربعة مؤتمرات دولية وعدد من ورش العمل. كان زميل باحث تعلق على هذا المشروع الدكتور استفان Kristo ناجي، والآن محاضر في الدراسات العربية والإسلامية بجامعة إكستر. يمكن العثور على مزيد من المعلومات حول المشروع على الموقع الإلكتروني للمشروع، www.livitproject.net. كان هناك اثنين من طلبة الدكتوراه المرتبطة بالمشروع، السيد الطيب ميموني والسيدة بيانكا Speidl. ميزانية المشروع هو £594,251 (قانون المنحة: ES / G034397 / 1). وقد تم الآن نشر المجلد الأول من سلسلة من ثلاثة أجزاء حول العنف في الفكر الإسلامي من جامعة أدنبرة برس.
4. باحث رئيسي للمشروع لمدة ثلاث سنوات التعاوني (2009-2011) بين الجمعية البريطانية لدراسات الشرق الأوسط (BRISMES) والمعهد البريطاني للدراسات الفارسية (BIPS)، برعاية الأكاديمية البريطانية، بعنوان سلطة رجال الدين المسلمين الشيعة : المعاهد الدينية في العراق وإيران بميزانية إجمالية قدرها £142,000 لزيارة المنح الدراسية وورش العمل والمشاريع البحثية. هذا المشروع ضم مجموعة من العلماء الدوليين للعمل بشكل تعاوني بين مارس 2009 و مارس 2012. وورش عمل تم تناولها من قبل البروفيسور روي متحدة (جامعة هارفارد)، والبروفيسور سابرينا ميرفين (CNRS)، وأستاذ لورانس Louer (العلوم بو). أنهى مشروع الحوزة مارس 2012 مع مؤتمر كبير في كلية كيبل، أكسفورد.

روب Gleave هو أمين / أمين الصندوق للجمعية الدولية للدراسات القانونية الإسلامية. وكان عضوا في لوحة الفرعي 27 دراسات المنطقة من الإطار التميز البحثي، وهو عضو في كل AHRC وESRC استعراض الأقران الكليات. حتى يوليو 2012، وكان رئيس المجلس الاستشاري لشبكة الدراسات الإسلامية في المملكة المتحدة، بتمويل من HEFCE، والتي شكلت الأساس لجمعية البريطانية للدراسات الإسلامية. وهو واحد من subeditors الشريعة الإسلامية بريل والمجتمع وعلى هيئات تحرير العديد من المجلات.
