عضو هيئة التدريس في جامعة غنت , بلجيكا ، قسم دراسات الشرق الأدنى،

أستاذ الدراسات العربية والدراسات الإسلامية في جامعة غنت (بلجيكا). وهو يعلم تاريخ وثقافة العالم الإسلامي ما قبل الحداثة، مع التركيز بشكل خاص على الفترة الوسطى الإسلامية (حوالي 1000-1500)، حول مصر وسوريا، على ممارسات وخطابات وهياكل نخب السلطة في سلطنة القاهرة ( حوالي 1200-1517)، وعلى تفكك الروايات الكبرى في التاريخ المماليك / الإسلامي.

كان في عام (1975) طالبا للدراسات العربية والإسلامية في كوليوفن (بلجيكا) حيث حصل على درجة الماجستير والدكتوراه (في رسالة دكتوراه بعنوان "الأمراء والجيش المماليك (741-784 ه / 1341 -1382 م) وسط عسكري وخطابه الاجتماعي السياسي "[تشرين الثاني 2003، 2 مجلد، 1078 صفحة]). وكان مساعد باحث في مؤسسة فلاندرز للبحوث (بلجيكا) وزميل باحث في المعهد الفلمنكي الهولندي في القاهرة (مصر). في عام 2004 تم تعيينه محاضرا (أستاذا مساعدا) في جامعة سانت أندروز (المملكة المتحدة)، في قسم التاريخ التاريخي في العصور الوسطى ودراسات الشرق الأوسط. منذ أوائل عام 2007، كان في جامعة غنت (بلجيكا)، كأول محاضر مؤهل (أستاذ مساعد) وأستاذ جامعي في الأبحاث (أستاذ مشارك) في الدراسات العربية والإسلامية، ومنذ عام 2012 كأستاذ أبحاث (أستاذ كامل / هوغلارار). في جامعة غنت، يشارك في تدريس التاريخ الإسلامي وتاريخ العالم، في اللغات والثقافات الشرقية (الدراسات العربية والإسلامية) وفي برامج التاريخ.
